Outstanding Student of the Year
Based on superior academic achievement in coursework, evidence of Biblical worldview and integration into practice and thought and of excellence in leadership in the field of journalism and media.
Broadcast Journalism Achievement Award
Awarded to a junior or senior journalism major with a concentration in Broadcasting who has demonstrated exceptional achievement and effective media production. The award honors professionalism in writing, editing or production, emphasizing fact-based inquiry to inform audiences through broadcast storytelling that honors God as the author of truth and represents the mission of Biola as well.
Cross-cultural Media Achievement Award
Awarded to a junior or senior journalism major with a concentration in cross-cultural media who has demonstrated exceptional achievement and commitment to excellence in telling stories within cross-cultural contexts. The award honors professionalism, leadership and effective engagement in campus media, off-campus internships and practice, representing the mission of Biola well.
Digital Journalism Achievement Award
Awarded to a junior or senior journalism major with a concentration in digital journalism who has demonstrated exceptional achievement and commitment to excellence in developing story and content within digital platforms. The award honors professionalism, leadership and effective engagement in campus media, off-campus internships and practice, representing the mission of Biola well.
Visual Media Achievement Award
Awarded to a junior or senior journalism major with a concentration in visual media who has demonstrated exceptional achievement and commitment to excellence in the visual practice. The award honors professionalism in projects and leadership in visual media that effectively engage in industry through campus media, off-campus internships and practice, representing the mission of Biola well.
Writing & Publishing Achievement Award
Awarded to a junior or senior journalism major with a concentration in Writing & Publishing who has demonstrated exceptional achievement, effective media production and intentional connection with the industry through internships. The award honors professionalism in writing, editing or production, emphasizing fact-based inquiry to inform audiences through narrative that honors God as the author of truth and represents the mission of Biola as well.
GENERAL AWARDS
Award of Outstanding Merit
Awarded to a freshman who has illustrated strong academic performance, shown promise in the field of Journalism/Media/PR and represents Biola values as a pre-professional.
Award of Outstanding Merit
Awarded to a transfer student who has illustrated strong academic performance, shown promise in the field of Journalism/Media/PR and represents Biola values as a pre-professional.
Servant Leader Award
This award is open to any student majoring in Journalism or PR who has demonstrated faith integration and service within any area of the department in ways that show selflessness and commitment to the success of others.
STUDENT MEDIA & ORGANIZATIONS
Rich Buhler Award of Radio Excellence
Awarded to a team member for The Torch who has consistently performed with excellence and contributed in substantial ways to the success of programming and to the development of team.
Chimes Award of Excellence
Awarded to a staff member for The Chimes who has consistently performed with excellence and contributed in substantial ways to the publication and to the team.
The Point Magazine Award of Excellence
Awarded to a staff member for The Point who has consistently performed with excellence and contributed in substantial ways to the publication and to the team.
EagleVision Award of Excellence
Awarded to a team member for Eaglevision who has consistently performed with excellence and contributed in substantial ways to the production and to the team.
PRSSA Award of Excellence
Awarded to a current member of Biola PRSSA that strongly represents the Biola PRSSA Chapter values both on campus and within industry events, through regular attendance at Chapter events, and through outstanding contribution to the Chapter activities.
6th Street Award of Excellence
Awarded to a 6th Street Public Relations staff member who has consistently performed with excellence for their client, contributed in substantial ways — either through leadership or collaboration on a team — to the agency, and effectively represents public relations as an industry.
BIOLA & OTHER AWARDS
Epsilon Kappa Epsilon
This prestigious honors society is unique to Biola, with membership limited to 5% of each graduating class. EKE is invitation only, with potential members selected and nominated by faculty. Nominated students must have a minimum 3.75 GPA and meet community service qualifications. The students are then required to apply through the dean’s office, from which finalists are selected and new members are inducted. New inductees are also given a special cord to wear at graduation.
Roy W. Howard Reporting Competition
The Roy W. Howard National Collegiate Reporting Competition awards nine of the country’s top journalists from universities all around the country with an all-expenses paid trip to Japan each year.
