How would you describe your style?
I would describe my style as laid back, with earthy tones, with a lot of high quality second hand items. A classic outfit for me would be a baggy jeans with a baby tee.
What inspired you to start thrifting?
I feel like I’ve been thrifting ever since I was pretty young. There use to be this one thrift store that was really close to my church so my family and I would go after church every Sunday; so growing up it’s been part of our routine. So that’s probably what got me into it. To continue thrifting, it became more about cheaper options, more sustainable and honestly I find more stuff that I like. Like it’s obviously easier to find pieces you might like at a regular store, but I would find pieces that I love more at a thrift shop and also more unique and more fun.

How did you get into the fashion and modeling industry?
So I got scouted when I was fourteen, at a vegan food festival and I was super excited about it, emailed the lady but got no response. So I was like ‘oh ok’, and then I emailed her again a few months later and she told me she was previously out of town and I should come in. Then I got signed and that’s pretty much how I started. And then I did that for about 5 years.

Were you a runway model or a magazine model?
I did runway and print
How has modeling impacted your style?
I feel like it did have a positive influence. A lot of the photoshoots at the beginning are called test shoots, where you basically bring your entire wardrobe. When you’re starting out, you need photos for your portfolio, like headshots. You get a lot of opportunities to style things differently.

When did you pick up crochet and do you still do it now?
I just realized through a Snapchat memory that I’ve been doing it for 2 years now! It’s crazy cos it doesn’t feel like its been that long. I picked that up during quarantine, it was my quarantine hobby and that’s been super fun, creating pieces and just coming up with different ideas. It honestly helps you build a lot of confidence when you build pieces that you thought of or designed.
How do you run your crochet business?
Honestly, I don’t put a lot of pressure on myself to work super hard on my crochet business because I don’t want to ruin the enjoyment of my hobby.
However, it is is super rewarding when I do sell things and people like and appreciate them. Right now I’m on Depop and Etsy and I hope to do more pop up shops in the future!
What about top 3 pieces you’ve thrifted?
I found this one earthy tone, muted green/brown long sleeve top from Ann Faraday, I thought that was really cool. I love thrifting in New Mexico cos it’s not picked over. They have a lot higher quality vintage pieces, I really love quality pieces where you can feel the quality and it looks nice, some of those pieces, sweaters & tees. I love sturdy stuff!

Tell me one trend you love and one trend you hate
I love knitwear & crochet as a trend in clothing right now and I hate the Amazon knockoffs of small designers
