My first impression of my topic, Latina Scholars, when I completed my final draft was that there were not a lot of statistics on Latinas in PhD settings. This was due to the fact that not many Latinas are encouraged to pursue PhDs.
I definitely struggled to find established research and data, especially data that pertained to Latinas in southern California. But I was able to find some at a bigger scale across the United States. In writing and collaborating on my chapter and media project it was difficult to make everything cohesive and accurate. It has taken a lot of editing and correction to make it come together.
The way I have grown and developed through this project journalistically is that I have learned to ask questions as a reporter and researcher. Because my concentration in the Journalism & Integrated Media major is in visual media, I am used to not talking so much about the subject but, in this project, I was able to work on my communication skills.
