When I first started the research on the generation gap, I believed that much of what I would find would be similar to my own experience. However, I learned more than I would have through my own experience. My first impression of my topic, Latina Scholars, when I completed my final draft was that there were not a lot of statistics on Latinas in PhD settings. This was due to the fact that not many Latinas are encouraged to pursue PhDs.\u00a0I definitely struggled to find established research and data, especially data that pertained to Latinas in southern California.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The LGBTQ+ community has been othered throughout history, but especially by the Church community. As someone who has grown up in conservative church and school communities, I have witnessed exclusion and hate against the LGBTQ+ community from the Church that is called to love thy neighbor.

I grew up in culture and religion. Growing up in the Inland Empire, specially San Bernardino, and from there I learned diversity. I am forever grateful for the opprotinues my grandparents gave me with growing up in IE. My grandfather is Hispanic, so I also grew up surrounded by what he valued, his own culture. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
