Internship: TEAM

September – December 2024

During my remote, four-month internship as a Communications Department Intern for The Evangelical Alliance Mission (TEAM), I gained experience creating content for internal and external communications in a professional, missions-oriented context. I communicated with my department primarily through Microsoft Teams and Outlook

In addition to the following tangible artifacts I created during my internship, I also proofread internal communication documents for grammar, punctuation, spelling and formatting errors.

My first assignment involved watching a 36:29 video interview, generating a transcript and writing an article for TEAM’s blog from it. I received eight photos from our source, converted them from HEIC to JPG and selected two photos to use in the article. I learned how vocabulary changes when speaking to international sources and eventually saw my 1044-word article published on TEAM’s website a couple months later.

For my next assignment, I received 73 photos from TEAM’s photo archive to produce a video with music in Adobe Premiere, with non-copyright music from Warner Chappell Production Music. The video was used as Instagram and Facebook Stories to celebrate TEAM’s 134th birthday.

In November, I reworked the video I used to create the birthday Story to create a 13-second Instagram/Facebook Reel, with the goal of including a call to action (CTA) at the end and directing users to TEAM’s Missions Opportunities page. I edited the video and the corresponding Warner Chappell music using Adobe Premiere Pro, and added captions using Instagram’s mobile app.

In November, I was also tasked with reworking this 2016 article, “20 Questions to Help You Prepare for a Mission Trip,” towards a younger audience because it still receives a lot of hits online. For this assignment, I wrote a 742-word article titled “5 Things to Consider before Your Short-Term Missions Trip” with hyperlinks that redirect readers to different pages on the TEAM website and a CTA guiding users to start the process of pursuing short term missions with TEAM. This article will publish in February 2025.

During December, the last month of my internship, I created an 8-slide carousel post for Instagram with a CTA to join the organization’s team of missionaries (see below). I primarily found inspiration from existing Instagram posts like this one, from Biola’s Snyder School of Cinema Media Arts, and created my posts using Canva and Adobe Photoshop, to photoshop subjects of the photos from their backgrounds.

My final task involved conducting a Q&A-style interview with Vonna Laue, TEAM’s Executive Director of Global Services and Chief Financial Officer, about her new book, Glad I Didn’t Know. After our 52:53 Zoom interview, I generated and edited a transcript of our conversation using Headliner AI’s Eddy app for my colleagues to use as blog post on the TEAM website.
